Bowls

Food Bowls & Plates are a form of technology that has been used by every culture in the world because people needed ways to present, serve and store food, made from many types of materials; wood, clay, metals, stone, and gourds. When we hold or use or admire a bowl, we are connected to our ancient ancestors who first made & used them. 

Bowls & Plates were made in many beautiful & varying forms in Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia & throughout Polynesia; Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti the Cook Islands, & throughout Micronesia & all the small Islands of the Pacific.

Bowls were sometimes important cultural & ceremonial objects used for honoring their ancestors or used solely by chiefly families.  Bowls & Plates often carved or incised with ancestral figures & designs and totemic animals and were family heirlooms used over generations

Bowls were also admired and traded widely throughout the Pacific Islands & have been collected by visitors to the Pacific Islands for 200 years.
